Deputy National Peace Ambassador Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Peacebuilding in Liberia

Grand Bassa County, Liberia – Deputy National Peace Ambassador of Liberia, Ambassador Barbara J. Menyongai, has reaffirmed the Office of the National Peace Ambassador’s dedication to advancing peacebuilding efforts nationwide through its revitalization and decentralization initiative.

Speaking during a community engagement meeting in Grand Bassa County on Tuesday, Ambassador Menyongai expressed gratitude to the Superintendent, community leaders, traditional authorities, women’s organizations, youth representatives, development partners, and residents for their active participation in the dialogue.

She emphasized that the gathering was part of the Office’s broader mission to reconnect with communities, understand local peace and security concerns, and rebuild institutional capacity to promote peace, prevent conflicts, and foster reconciliation through inclusive dialogue and strategic partnerships.

“The purpose of this engagement is to listen to the experiences of our people, identify the issues affecting peace and social cohesion, and ensure that peacebuilding services are brought closer to the communities they are intended to serve,” Ambassador Menyongai stated.

According to her, the revitalization and decentralization initiative is aligned with the Government of Liberia’s broader agenda of sustaining lasting peace and promoting inclusive national development. She encouraged participants to engage openly and respectfully, underscoring that the meeting was a shared platform between the Office and the communities it serves.

“This is your meeting as much as it is ours. We encourage everyone to speak openly, respectfully, and constructively so that together we can build stronger, more peaceful, and united communities,” she added.

Ambassador Menyongai further noted that recommendations and findings from the engagement will inform future peacebuilding interventions, strengthen conflict prevention and early warning mechanisms, and support the effective implementation of the decentralization process. She concluded by commending participants for their commitment to peace and their willingness to contribute to building a more united Liberia.

This engagement forms part of a nationwide series of consultations designed to expand the reach and effectiveness of the Office of the National Peace Ambassador in communities across Liberia.
