From Early Warning to Lasting Peace: Liberia Strengthens Community Resilience Against Conflict Through Refresher Training Workshop
Ganta City, Nimba County – July 29–30, 2026 — The Liberia Peacebuilding Office (LPBO) has launched a two-day Refresher Training Workshop on the Early Warning and Early Response System (EWERS), convening Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) Monitors, County Peace Committees (CPCs), Youth Agents for Peace (YAPs), School Peace Clubs (SPCs), and Regional Hub Coordinators. The initiative is designed to reinforce Liberia’s conflict prevention and response mechanisms.
The workshop focused on enhancing participants’ knowledge and skills in monitoring, data collection, analysis, reporting, and the effective use of EWERS to identify and respond to potential conflict situations nationwide.
The second phase of the refresher training is scheduled for Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County, August 3–4, 2026, further extending the program’s reach.
This training provided a vital platform for participants to exchange experiences, assess progress, identify emerging challenges, and strengthen collaboration in promoting peace, social cohesion, and timely conflict response across Liberia.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Kamara, Executive Director of the Liberia Peacebuilding Office, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to building resilient communities through effective early warning and response mechanisms. He emphasized that strengthening local peace structures remains central to sustaining peace and preventing conflict nationwide.
Also addressing participants, Mr. J. Roosevelt Zayzay Sr., National Program Officer for the UNDP Elections Project, commended the LPBO and its peace infrastructure for their outstanding contributions to peacebuilding, particularly during Liberia’s 2023 General and Presidential Elections. He encouraged the Office to increase its public visibility, noting that while significant work is being accomplished, many achievements remain largely unknown to the public.
Mr. Zayzay concluded by expressing appreciation to the LPBO leadership for its strong partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other development partners in advancing peacebuilding initiatives across Liberia.
Through initiatives such as this refresher training, the Liberia Peacebuilding Office continues to empower communities, strengthen national capacities, and reinforce Liberia’s commitment to sustainable peace, social cohesion, and effective conflict prevention.
